Analgesics
Analgesics are drugs used for the treatment of pain. Purdue Pharma's brand names of immediate and controlled release analgesics provide relief for mild, moderate and severe pain. The unique Contin controlled release mechanism offers continuous pain relief for 12 or more hours.

What Are Opioid Analgesics?
Opioid analgesics are a class of drug that provides effective pain relief and, when used properly, can help control your pain throughout the day and night. These pain relievers are available only with a prescription from your doctor. Your doctor has chosen one or more analgesics for you to provide reliable pain relief. Pain can have many different causes; but whatever the cause, it can be treated. Many opioid analgesics that are taken orally (by mouth), provide pain relief for a relatively short period of time -- four hours, for example. Oral controlled-release opioid analgesics, however, are designed to release the active analgesic drug slowly in the body. This means that pain relief can be long-lasting, up to 12 hours.
