Laxatives are drugs used in the treatment of constipation. Constipation is defined as infrequent, irregular or incomplete bowel movements. Constipation is not a disease, but a symptom that can cause pain and straining. A sudden change in eating habits, stress, travel or diet can contribute to a change in bowel habits that may lead to constipation.
