Purdue Pharma - formerly Purdue Frederick - began its Canadian operations in Montréal in 1956. The Canadian company was the first international associate of Purdue Pharma, US - which began operations under the present ownership in New York City in 1952. Purdue Pharma relocated from Montréal to Toronto in 1958.
Since that time, Purdue has consistently outperformed the industry average on key business parameters such as sales growth, market share and brand recognition in its primary therapeutic areas. Purdue is also one of the limited number of pharmaceutical companies that has continued to maintain a fully integrated R&D formulation laboratory, drug development function and manufacturing capabilities in Canada - in addition to finance, marketing and sales activities. Purdue participates in the earliest stages of product development - providing a broad variety of business-building opportunities from both national and worldwide sources. In fact, Purdue's worldwide philosophy incorporates a strong focus on being responsive to the needs and opportunities within each of the countries where it operates.
In Canada, Purdue's staff currently numbers approximately 300 employees, and this year's sales are projected to be over $200 million. The company is located on an 11.5 acre site in Pickering, Ontario - in a facility that was designed to maximize the aesthetics of both personal and group workspaces.
